Ethiopian Airlines Begins Direct Flight to Port Louis, Mauritius

Ethiopian Airlines has officially launched a direct passenger service connecting Addis Ababa with Port Louis, Mauritius, as the carrier continues expanding its global network.

The inaugural flight departed Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on Sunday morning, marking the official commencement of the direct passenger service to Port Louis as of July 12, 2026.

The new thrice-weekly flight service to the African Island nation is scheduled to be operated on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

“The new route is designed to enhance connectivity across Africa and beyond while boosting tourism and businesses,” the airline said in a statement following the departure of the inaugural flight.

Prior to the introduction of the direct flight, Ethiopian served Mauritius through interlines and codeshare partnerships via regional hubs like Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Antananarivo.

The direct route is expected to provide passengers greater convenience while linking the island nation to Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive global network via Addis Ababa.

“Mauritius is a destination of remarkable beauty, rich culture and growing economic importance,” Mesfin Tasew, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, noted.

“By establishing a direct link between the country and our vast global network, we are pleased to offer convenient travel options to our passengers while bringing the world closer to Mauritius,” he said.

“As a Pan-African airline, Ethiopian will continue to serve as a catalyst for enhanced air connectivity between Africa and the rest of the world.”

the launch of the new service is part Ethiopian Airline’s ongoing effort to expand its network despite challenges facing the global aviation industry, including the disruption of air transport service arising from the Middle East conflict and the ensuing jet fuel price spikes.

So far this year, the airline added multiple new destinations such as Jizan in Saudi Arabia and Lyon in France to its international flight network while resuming key international routes such as Atlanta, US.

Ethiopian Airlines currently serves close to 170 domestic and international passenger and cargo destinations across five continents – including 60 African cities, with daily and multiple flights.
