ADDIS ABABA – The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) has introduced a new digital service that streamlines issuance of NBE account numbers for newly licensed importers and exporters.
The Central Bank has partnered with the Ethiopian Customs Commission (ECC) to launch the new digital service through the customs electronic single window.
“The service will enable the NBE Account Numbers to be issued seamlessly through Customs Electronic Single Window (eSW), reducing administrative procedures and supporting faster processing,” the Bank said in a public notice issued on Friday.
The service applies only to newly licensed importers and exporters obtaining a NBE Account Number for the first time.
“Businesses that already have an NBE Account Number should continue using the existing numbers for all importing and exporting transactions,” the Central Bank stated.
The initiative is a part of the National Bank of Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to modernize trade-related services, improve the ease of doing business, and enhance digital service delivery.
