Africa CDC Declares End of Mpox Public Health Emergency

Africa CDC Mpox

The Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya announced the end of the mpox continental emergency, noting that weekly confirmed cases had fallen below the WHO threshold for three consecutive reporting periods.

The announcement follows the distribution of over 3.2 million vaccine doses across the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Uganda, and Kenya through the AU-backed African Vaccine Acquisition Trust mechanism.

Surveillance systems will remain on high alert, and the Africa CDC has committed to maintaining stockpiles of 1 million doses for rapid response deployment.
